Wirral Churches Ark Project

Wirral Ark - Training Extension

The Next Step...

The Ark (Wirral Churches' Ark Project) owns and operates Mary Cole House, a 25 bed hostel for the homeless.

The Ark plans to build a much needed substantial extension to the hostel to facilitate resident activities and training in additon to providing a purpose built nurses' surgery.

Wirral Council have promised additional land on which to build.

The extension will be built so that its use is flexible.

The design includes:

  • A large multi-purpose training / activity room.
  • A computer suite area for IT training.
  • A nurses room.

In 2005 the Ark began Arkangel, a 'move-on' housing scheme of six 2-bedroom houses, to which Ark residents can move as a step to re-integrating into society.

The hostel extension is a further development which will better enable us to help residents to be ready to re-integrate into mainstream society, learning, or relearning, essential skills.

The total cost is £290,000 and we plan to build in the Autumn 2009.

The Training Extension will provide an excellent environment for learning:

  • Numeracy & literacy
  • Cooking
  • Budgeting
  • Confidence Building
  • 'People' Skills
  • Computer Training

and for Vocational and Pre-Vocational Courses.
