Dear Supporters,
This is my first newsletter for Wirral Churches Ark Project since taking over as Chief Executive at the beginning of May. Bob Jarvis has now taken on the role of Finance and Development Manager; a huge role in itself especially if we are to move forward and upwards in our field and help the ever increasing numbers of homeless and vulnerable who present at our door every day of the week. I previously managed a homeless centre in Chester and am excited by the new challenges that this role will bring in this already excellent organisation.
Unfortunately we heard at the end of April that our bid to the 'Places of Change' programme for our new training extension was unsuccessful; however we press on undeterred and a bid for planning permission will go in shortly. This will mean of course that we need to raise the money required and fundraising events are already being planned. Education in its various forms, be it formal or otherwise, is a key area in helping people out of the cycle of homelessness and benefits, so we are determined that this project will go ahead.
The various workshops that we run at The Ark every week for residents continue; these are on subjects such as relaxation, budgeting, keeping healthy, and we are shortly to introduce one on cooking to help prepare residents for moving on. The art classes remain popular, and on Thursdays we have an outdoor activities session which often involves trips to local parks etc.
The hostel remains full and we continue to work tirelessly for those within our care who are often at the lowest ebb in their lives.
We are, as always, ever grateful to our supporters without whose physical help and donations we would struggle to maintain our service.
Please do contact me at The Ark if you would like any further information on any aspect of our work.
Sincerely,
Anne O'Marah Chief Executive
