A Letter From The Chief Executive (October 2008)

Dear Supporters,

We have had a very busy few months at The Ark and our move-on project, Arkangel. Just under 60% of those moving on from the hostel are now having planned moves into other accommodation, some into further supported housing, but many into their own homes for the first time in their lives. This of course means a lot of work for the support staff preparing people for the big day and ensuring that everything goes as smoothly as possible, but this is ultimately why we are here, to repair damaged lives and see people strike out on their own again, with the tools in place to cope with the day to day challenges that independent living brings.

We are always looking at new and innovative ways to engage with our residents; for example in conjunction with the YMCA we took a group on a day trip on their narrow boat. This was a wonderful and relaxed time resulting in a greater understanding all round of the problems that residents and staff alike face day to day. It was a joint working exercise of the very best, steering the boat, navigating the locks preparing meals and will definatly be repeated.

Arkangel have taken their residents on a couple of residentials in Harlech. These are designed to build self confidence and self awareness and have proved very effective.

On Friday November 7th 2008 between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00p.m we are having an open day at Mary Cole House to which all are invited. There will be displays of current projects, the history of The Ark, and our plans for the future. Please come along, you will be most welcome. If anyone can't make this date, but would like to have look round, then please contact me on 0151 650 6858 and an arrangement can be made.

We have been very blessed with Harvest Festival donations this year, and a big thank you to all the schools and churches who have donated their produce to us. It is generosity like this that enables us to continue with our work and the support of so many means a great deal to both residents and staff alike.

We are continuing to fund raise for the extension; something we believe will make a big difference to us. Education in its many forms is a key to the future for many of our residents.

If anyone has any questions or queries then please don't hesitate to contact me at Mary Cole House.

Sincerely,

Anne O'Marah
Chief Executive
